Employee Spotlight - Sean Malone, Web Developer

Employee Spotlight - Sean Malone, Web Developer

Each month we take a closer look at one of Lolly's fantastic team members and find out more about how they help drive Lolly's success. This month the spotlight is on Web Developer, Sean Malone.

How long have you been with Lolly?

I’ve been with Lolly for one year now.

What does your job entail? What are the highlights?

I’m a web developer, which means I develop and maintain solutions for Its Lolly on our web products. This includes the Lolly preorder site, LollyPOS, Lolly Self-Serve and LollyHQ.

I would say the main highlight is the people of Lolly. Everyone is very professional, but also kind and friendly and approachable. Another highlight would be that I’ve had the chance to develop real-world solutions for our products. It’s great to see my work being used by customers immediately after developing it.

Who inspired you to pursue the career you have today?

My Dad is very knowledgeable about computers and IT, which inspired me to become interested in computers growing up. He would always be the first port of call for any issues I would have, and he would encourage me to sometimes seek out solutions on my own and think through problems.

I recently switched to web development as a career at 30 years old but, I would always do hobby projects on computers throughout my life before my career change.

What are you most proud of achieving during your time at Lolly so far?

My biggest achievement is redesigning the Lolly preorder site from the ground up. Although I had a bit of experience in UX/UI(User Experience/User Interface), it has taught me a great deal about web design and UX/UI. A lot of our customers use this site for ordering ahead of events, so my work has an impact on potentially thousands of users.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Although a lot of web development involves coding, I would like to improve my understanding of business logic and how that ties in with the features that I develop.

I also develop for quite a lot of our products now, but I would like to get to know everything about all our products so that I can be more of an asset to the company, while also continuing to develop exciting things for preorder, POS, Self Serve and HQ.

What are your outside interests and hobbies?

I have a keen interest in languages and occasionally still love to practice my French on Discord servers or other online forums. I’m also into sports like climbing and snowboarding and have been getting back into powerlifting more recently.
